TRIPTYCH HOUSING:

AFFORDABLE HOUSING

MULTI-GENERATIONAL

FAMILIES

Location: San Francisco

Scope: Affordable Housing Competition

Placement: Shortlisted Project

Tryptich housing is a multi-Family housing development that addresses the needs of financially burdened families in San Francisco. As socio-economic disparities increase within San Francisco and housing development attempts to catch up with the demands, the design of affordable housing units have not always addressed the needs of communities like the residents of Balboa Park and the greater Excelsior District. Tryptich housing looks to create housing for multigenerational families as well as the younger professionals looking to settle down in San Francisco. Tryptich housing’s design influence is inspired by the use of gable roofs and accessory dwelling units that are connected through glass plenums in hopes of providing opportunities for families to build relationships and community. Our floor plan designs are meant to address the needs of multiple family dynamics which include the separate space for married couples to live with their parents while still allowing for private living quarters. Affordable housing projects across San Francisco rarely address the needs of multi-generational living spaces and we attempted to provide this within our design schemes.
